I’m So Afraid

Fleetwood Mac Over My Head German single cover
“Over My Head” couple with “I’m So Afraid” on the German single release (Discogs)

“I’m So Afraid” is Track 11 on Fleetwood Mac’s 10th studio album, the self-titled Fleetwood Mac (1975). It appears as the b-side of the US single for “Over My Head.”

Written by Lindsey Buckingham, “I’m So Afraid” was one of many of the songs intended for a proposed second Buckingham Nicks album. Other songs in this group included “Monday Morning,” “Rhiannon,” and “Landslide” — all of which were used for Fleetwood Mac.

An early instrumental take of “I’m So Afraid” appears on the 2018 reissue of Fleetwood Mac.

Lyrics

I been alone
All the years
So many ways to count the tears
I never change
I never will
I’m so afraid the way I feel

Days when the rain and the sun are gone
Black as night
Agony’s torn at my heart too long
So afraid
Slip and I fall and I die

I been alone
Always down
No one cared to stay around
I never change
I never will
I’m so afraid the way I feel

Days when the rain and the sun are gone
Black as night
Agony’s torn at my heart too long
So afraid
Slip and I fall and I die

How I feel
Days when the rain and the sun are gone
Black as night
Agony’s torn at my heart too long
So afraid
Slip and I fall and I die
