Rhino issues early years Fleetwood Mac: Best of 1969-1974

Rhino celebrates the early years of Fleetwood Mac on the upcoming compilation Fleetwood Mac: Best of 1969-1974, out July 26.

During those five pivotal years prior to Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining the band, Fleetwood Mac recorded seven studio albums, as they transitioned from the blues to mainstream rock. Alongside founding members Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie, several band members contributed to this productive era of releases, including Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer, Christine McVie, and Bob Welch, among others.

The band’s sound would distinctively evolve on the standout cuts “Station Man,” “Sentimental Lady,” and “Spare Me a Little of your Love,” which clearly favored pop sensibilities. By 1974, with these new pop hooks in tow, Fleetwood Mac started to breakthrough in the U.S. market with the release of their ninth album Heroes Are Hard to Find, which reached a new chart peak of No. 34 on Billboard 200 Albums. These essential recordings would position the band for superstardom in the years to come.
